Berea Baptist Church in Durham NC, located at 5011 Fayetteville Rd Durham, is seeking a full-time Pastor to help lead and guide the congregation to bridge the gap between Berea’s traditional past and fulfilling our mission in a more contemporary society/community, while still maintaining respect for that past. The anticipated needs for a Pastor to help accomplish this are:
> Preach Sunday morning worship services
> Lead Bible studies and /or other Christian education on Sunday and Wednesday evenings
> Connect on a personal level with the congregants
> Respect Berea’s history and traditions, yet lead Berea to adjust as needed to grow physically and spiritually
> Help Berea provide an environment for the older base congregation while creating opportunities to reach and draw-in younger adults/couples/youth
> Guide and participate in visitation of sick/shut-ins and visitors
> Guide the congregation in outreach endeavors spreading God’s love and message of salvation
> Seminary graduate (or currently pursuing seminary degree) preferred, but not required
Berea was established in 1855 and since then has come from originally worshipping under a simple brush arbor for services to the beautiful present day facilities. The current congregation is mostly middle-aged and older adults with only few young adults and children/youth. Over time the demographic of the surrounding community has changed as well; however, the community surrounding the Church is still important to Berea, and many special events are sponsored for and opened to community attendance: annual Carnival day, Vacation Bible School, school supply drive, fund-raising dinners, Homecoming, Fall festival/trunk-or-treat, Easter and Christmas programs/cantatas. By way of sign information, Berea opens the invited community to being anyone who passes and sees the invitation/announcement. Berea also reaches out to a wider community by participating in warm clothing collection for Durham and Raleigh charities; in the food pantry, toy store collections and in baking cookies for prisoners thru the Yates Association, in preparing meals and wish-list item collections for Ronald McDonald Houses, and in preparing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Berea’s mission was and is and will continue to be to reach out to our community, wherever it may be, spreading God’s Word and message of salvation and His love.
