Administrative Assistant

Wakefield Central Baptist Church located in Zebulon, NC is seeking a full time Secretary/Administrative Assistant. Our mission statement: We are founded on the Word of God, centered on Christ and focused on people. We are Obedient, Worshiping, and Reproducible Disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Church Secretary performs responsible clerical/secretarial work by operating in an organized manner and with efficiency in a church office setting. The Church Secretary should be a high school graduate and have a minimum of one year’s experience in clerical/secretarial work. The position requires typing and computer skills at a reasonable rate and ability. The Church Secretary is to assist the Pastor, staff, and members of the congregation in areas related to the operation of the church business office, as the work will require.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality as is necessary in a church office setting. 
  • Serve as an effective and responsible communicator by handling incoming telephone calls and other communications related to the church office. 
  • Prepare the weekly church bulletin. 
  • Prepare the monthly church newsletter, with newsletter to be mailed out no later than the 27th of each month. 
  • Work with Church Treasurer and Finance Committee in the monthly preparation of financial statements for church business meetings. 
  • Assist the Church Treasurer in mailing out of payments of church bills. 
  • Work with Church Clerk in maintaining an updated membership file. 
  • Work with Sunday School Department in the production of Sunday School record sheets and membership/enrollment/attendance data entry into the computer. 
  • Review and distribute incoming mail.
  •  Organize and maintain files for church correspondence, membership lists, etc. 
  • Maintain current church calendar as directed by the Church Council scheduling various events through the church office. 
  • Operate and maintain office equipment. 
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies and advise ministerial staff of need for reorder as necessary. 
  • Utilize the church computer system including the Automated Church System to enhance communications, record keeping, etc. 
  • Receive church literature and distribute to proper organization. 
  • Assist Deacon Ministry in the preparation of media for distribution. 
  • Operate an organized office, with daily closure, clean up (as is related to desk space and working area in office), and security when leaving.
  • Assist Prayer Ministry with mail out of weekly prayer slips. 

  • Recommended by the Personnel Committee and elected by the church with the assurance of full support of the church. 
  • Compensated according to the recommendation of the Personnel Committee and Finance Committee with the approval of the church.
  • Work will be supervised by the pastor who manages the staff on behalf of the congregation.
  • Work schedule to be Monday through Friday for an average of 40 hours per week as negotiated.
  • All ministry staff should be supportive of Wakefield Central Baptist Church’s affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention and our adherence to the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
