Director of Operations
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC is looking for a Full Time Director of Operations.
The Director of Operations is responsible for contributing to the execution of the vision of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church through the direct management of financial and facility and grounds related operations on the Main Campus and the Old MVBC Campus.
Qualifications: This individual must give testimony to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord and must demonstrate an attitude and a Christlike lifestyle, including qualities such as: humility, servant-leadership, faithfulness, maturity, and a desire to serve God by serving his people. Although this is not a pastoral position, because the MVBC campus hosts Neuse Christian Academy, The Growing Place preschool, and the Vietnamese Evangelical Church, the ideal candidate for this position desires to work in an active and collaborative ministry environment while assisting with the operational aspects that help these ministries function smoothly.
Other specific qualifications include: • Knowledge and understanding of facility use patterns and accepted cleanliness and maintenance standards • Practical and working knowledge of facility and grounds operations including areas such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical (HVAC), etc. • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of project management in a facility setting • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of financial operations and accounting software • Knowledge and experience of church operations a plus • Formal training or equivalent experience in the finance, administrative, and/or operations related fields • Previous experience in finance/accounting, construction industry, operational management, and/or church ministry contexts is helpful • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment/technology required Supervisor: Associate Pastor Responsibilities in Facility
Operations: • Manage and direct the daily operations of the church facilities and grounds, including coordination of all preventive and corrective maintenance, municipal inspections, capital improvement projects, master facility planning, and facilities usage between all parties using the MVBC campus including organizations such as: MVBC, The Growing Place preschool, Vietnamese Evangelical Church, and Neuse Christian Academy • Administrate, supervise, and lead the facilities maintenance staff; this includes day-to-day oversight, issuing regular job performance evaluations, assisting in the establishment and pursuit of goals and objectives, and administrating relevant personnel matters in accordance with the church personnel policy • Responsible for regular communication with contractors, servicing companies, inspectors, and suppliers regarding the church facilities and grounds and the status of any ongoing projects • Work with the Building & Grounds Committee to determine financial and physical resources needed for the maintenance and day-to-day operations of the physical campus and submit a well-planned budget to the Financial Stewardship Committee that will effectively meet these needs; administer the budget once it is approved • Serve as an ex-officio member/MVBC staff liaison to the Building & Grounds Committee and the MVBC-NCA Joint Capital Planning Task Force • With the aid and counsel of the Associate Pastor, identifies, recruits, and trains volunteers to assist with facilities maintenance where practicable • Work a flexible schedule to fulfill obligations and promptly respond to emergency needs; respond to facility related emergency service requests and coordinate response, on a 24-hour, seven days a week basis; when unavailable due to circumstances such as being out of town, sick, or on vacation notification must be given to the Associate Pastor Responsibilities in Financial Operations: • Under the direct supervision of the Associate Pastor and the Financial Stewardship Committee, manage all day-to-day operations of the church budget and finances (i.e. – payroll, accounts payable, contributions, etc.) • Responsible for working directly with the Church Treasurer in assuring that all revenue, purchase, and expenditure procedures are in accordance with MVBC’s Financial Policies and Procedures • Supervise and lead the Bookkeeper; this includes day-to-day oversight, issuing regular job performance evaluations, assisting in the establishment and pursuit of goals and objectives, and administrating relevant personnel matters in accordance with the church personnel policy • Supervise and lead The Director of The Growing Place Preschool with emphasis on day-to-day oversight of financial and facility operations • Manage the church’s insurance coverage, including building, liability, and worker’s compensation • Serve as an ex-officio member/MVBC staff liaison to the Financial Stewardship
Committee Other Ministry Responsibilities: • Support the leadership of the Senior Pastor • Cooperate with and encourage the larger ministry staff team of MVBC, partnering together on ministry projects as necessary or where assigned by supervisor • Assist the Associate Pastor with church publicity, including but not limited to the church website, publications, community promotions, and church communications through ACS Realm system • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings • Responsible for hiring/staffing positions under direct supervision according to MVBC Personnel Policy & Procedure • Abide by the MVBC Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Procedures Manual • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Senior Pastor or Associate Pastor which are consistent with the overall mission of the church The Apostle Paul reminds us that it is God who chooses the gifts He bestows upon His children. With that in mind, the Director of Operations is encouraged to seek out through prayer and Bible study those gifts in areas outside of his direct responsibility that God would lead him to exercise. Furthermore, the Director of Operations is expected to continue in the pursuit of personal development, both spiritually and professionally, particularly as it applies to operations management and church administration.
